The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago convened its annual general body meeting at Ashyana Banquets in Chicago last week, commemorating a night of Diwali celebrations, leadership changes, and a new vision for 2025.
The event, attended by over 300 members, saw the announcement of the 2025 executive board and the new leadership team led by president-elect Anu Malhotra. Founder chairman Sunil Shah and secretary general Nilabh Dubey opened the meeting with remarks and welcomed new members while highlighting FIA’s dedication to preserving Indian culture.
President Pratibha Jairath recapped FIA’s achievements in 2024, including organizing nine major events and planning a coat and toy drive for December 2024. Notable highlights included the Holi festival, attended by 1,200 participants, and the Star Awards Night, honoring community leaders and featuring Bollywood star Jaya Prada.
Vice-chairman Neil Khot reflected on FIA’s community service efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Incoming president Malhotra outlined a robust calendar of events, emphasizing unity and cultural celebration. “Leadership to me is not about being in charge – it is about caring deeply for those in your charge,” she said.
Treasurer Suresh Bodiwala presented the financial report, highlighting increased membership and sponsorship opportunities. Winners of the membership drive were also recognized with cash prizes.
The evening concluded with dinner, karaoke, and dancing, with emcees Shradha Marathe and Jitendra Bulsara leading the celebrations. A birthday cake-cutting ceremony honored 23 members. Two members, Khushbu Bansal and Madhuri Thakkar, joined on the spot, underscoring FIA’s growing appeal.
