Five Indian-Americanvmen have been charged in connection with the murder of Kuldeep Kumar, a 35-year-old Indian man whose decomposed body, riddled with bullets, was discovered in a forest in Manchester Township, New Jersey.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges following the arrest of the fifth suspect on Jan 3.
Sandeep Kumar, 34, of South Ozone Park, New York, was taken into custody on Jan 3 and charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Kuldeep Kumar is believed to have been fatally shot multiple times in the chest on or around Oct. 22,2024.
Four other suspects—Sourav Kumar (23), Gaurav Singh (27), Nirmal Singh (30), and Gurdeep Singh (22)—were apprehended earlier on Dec. 20,2024, in Greenwood, Indiana. They face identical charges and are being held at the Johnson County Jail in Franklin, Indiana, pending extradition to New Jersey.
Kuldeep Kumar was reported missing by his family on Oct.26,2024, in Ozone Park, New York, after he was last seen earlier that month. Nearly two months later, his decomposed remains were found on Dec.14,2024, in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Kumar had died from multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) assisted in identifying the body.
Authorities from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the New Jersey State Police, and the FBI conducted an extensive investigation, concluding that all five suspects were involved in the murder.
Sandeep Kumar is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail in New Jersey, awaiting a detention hearing.
The prosecutor’s office has not yet disclosed a motive for the killing. The investigation remains ongoing.
