Authorities in Canada have issued nationwide arrest warrants for at least four South Asian individuals in connection with serious criminal offenses.

While Navneet Singh, a truck driver from Ontario, is wanted for a road accident that killed a mother and her minor daughter, Prasath Paramalingam, a suspect in the Toronto gold heist case, jumped his court appearance.

Two other suspects in the gold heist case—Simran Preet Panesar and Arsalan Chaudhary—wanted on Canada-wide warrants are still at large, the Peel Regional Police said.

The police said that Prasath Paramalingam, 35, was facing charges related to the theft of US$22.5 million in gold from Pearson Airport in one of the stunning heists that took place in the high-security cargo area of Pearson International Airport.

Prasath Paramalingam is charged with one count of accessory after the fact for his alleged role in helping Durante King-McLean escape. King-McLean is the alleged driver who drove a truck loaded with more than US$22.5 million in gold away from the Air Canada cargo facility at the airport in April 2023.

Both men also face more serious charges in the U.S. in connection with an alleged firearms smuggling operation.

According to grand jury documents, Pennsylvania State Police pulled over King-McLean in Franklin County after he committed several traffic offenses. They allege 65 firearms destined for Canada were found in his vehicle. He remains in custody in the U.S. awaiting trial.

Paramalingam is also accused of helping King-McLean illegally enter the U.S., traffic the firearms, secure money for the scheme, and arrange an Airbnb in Florida.

Durante King-McLean, who was arrested on Sept. 2, 2023, by Pennsylvania State Police, has pleaded not guilty to six firearms-related charges. Peel police allege he drove away from Pearson airport in a white cube van full of gold bars and foreign currency in April 2023, the media reports said.

In the second case, the attempts by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to find Navjeet Singh, 25, in Winnipeg were unsuccessful.

He allegedly drove a semi-trailer truck through a stop sign, crashing into an SUV and killing a Manitoba mother and her eight-year-old daughter, said RCMP.

A countrywide arrest warrant has been issued for him as the RCMP charged him with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and one count of obstructing a police officer, police said in a news release.

The RCMP had earlier claimed that Singh was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries and released.

The crash killed Sara Unger, 35, and her daughter Alexa Unger, 8. They were heading home from the grocery store when the crash took place. The victims were from the rural municipality of Rhineland, which surrounds Altona, about 90 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg.

Sara was pronounced dead at the scene. Alexa, who was a passenger in the SUV, was airlifted to Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre, where she died from her injuries.
