GA Senate candidate Ramaswami condemns racist attacks against Indian Americans
If elected, Ramaswami would become Georgia’s first Indian American and Gen Z State Senator.

Ashwin Ramaswami, a candidate for the Georgia State Senate in District 48, has condemned the recent bigoted attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris, Usha Vance and individuals of South Asian descent in the United States.
In a statement, Ramaswami said, “Recent examples, such as reports of Republicans calling Vice President Kamala Harris a ‘DEI hire’ or attacking her based on her race; or the racist attacks against Hindu American Usha Vance and Sikh American Harmeet Dhillon at the GOP Convention, are against the very fabric of our democracy.”
“As a practicing Hindu American myself, I know the values of my own Dharmic traditions in accepting differences and welcoming different points of view. This is the viewpoint I hope to bring to my district and encourage throughout Georgia and the United States,” he added.
Ramaswami is the latest politician to condemn these racist attacks following Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who recently condemned the racist reaction to Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon's recital of the Sikh prayer 'ardas' at the Republican National Convention that took place in Milwaukee.
Ramaswami is a Johns Creek native and son of immigrants with a strong commitment to public service and advocacy. If elected, he would become Georgia’s first Gen Z State Senator and the only legislator in the state with both a computer science and a law degree.
In the election, Ramaswami will face indicted incumbent Shawn Still. District 48, which is the most competitive seat in the Georgia Senate, presents a top pickup opportunity for Georgia Democrats. The district narrowly favored Trump over Biden in 2020 with a 48-52 split and was won by Warnock with a 51-49 margin in the 2022 runoffs.
Ramaswami's campaign has received endorsements from Senator Jon Ossoff and Congresswoman Lucy McBath of Georgia’s 7th congressional district. Additionally, Ramaswami is one of four Georgians serving on the credentials committee for the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
