Gayathri Krishnan named Ivy League Player of the Year

Prior to joining Columbia, she was a four-year singles player for Cupertino High School in California

Tennis player and Columbia sophomore Gayathri Krishnan was named Ivy League Player of the Year, as announced by the Ivy League Conference on April 24. 

She becomes just the third player in Columbia women’s tennis history to earn the honor, joining Kanika Vaidya (2016) and Nicole Bartnik (2012, 2013).

Krishnan posted a perfect 5-0 Ivy League singles record while competing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. She finished the spring dual season with a 16-3 singles record and went 25-10 overall. Throughout her career, she has posted a 24-7 overall record in singles play having finished with 15 dual singles wins.

In addition to her singles success, Krishnan earned second team all-conference honors in doubles play for the second time in her career, posting a 17-12 overall record.

Sophomore Sophia Strugnell also received second team honors in doubles, compiling an 18-13 record. Partnering primarily with Krishnan, the duo went 3-1 in Ivy League play.Columbia now awaits its postseason fate. The NCAA Tennis Championship field will be announced on April 28 during the selection show.
