Geeta Sikand recognized with Distinguished Scholars Award

The Indian-origin nutrition expert has been recognized for her outstanding contribution to research on the practice of dietetics.

After being nominated by a colleague, Geeta Sikand has been honored with the Cardiovascular Health and Wellbeing Distinguished Scholars Award.

The award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to research or the practice of dietetics. Sikand’s colleague Penny M. Kris-Etherton, who is a Professor of Nutritional Sciences at Evan Pugh University and nominated her, highlighted in a letter that Sikand’s record of academic and professional scholarship epitomizes what this award represents.

“Geeta is truly selfless in promoting our colleagues and profession. Her significant and sustained volunteer efforts over her career have resulted in her receiving many awards, including the 2019 Medallion Award,” she said.

Sikand is the Director of Nutrition, Preventive Cardiology Program at University of California Irvine and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine (Cardiology Division). She is a registered dietitian nutritionist, Clinical Lipid Specialist, Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy), and Fellow of the National Lipid Association (NLA).

Sikand attained her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Lady Irwin College, New Delhi India and completed her Masters in Nutrition at California State University, Long Beach.
