Global Indian Diaspora Foundation launches book on India’s economic future
“India@100” authored by Krishnamurthy Subramanian outlines a roadmap for India to achieve a $55 trillion economy by 2047.

The Global Indian Diaspora Foundation (GIDF) along with the Consulate General of India in Chicago, formally launched the book “India@100: Envisioning Tomorrow’s Economic Powerhouse” during an event held at the consulate earlier this week.
Authored by Krishnamurthy Subramanian, former Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India and current Executive Director for India at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the book presents a bold and detailed vision for India's economic transformation coinciding with its centennial independence anniversary.
Consul General Somnath Ghosh opened the evening, drawing a connection to Dhanteras—a day associated with prosperity. He reiterated India’s commitment to economic development, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047. “This vision aligns perfectly with India’s strengths and aspirations,” said Ghosh
Subramanian, in his keynote address, outlined the three pillars necessary for India’s economic acceleration: formalizing the economy, enhancing productivity, and fostering innovation. Citing historic growth patterns in Japan and China, he posed, “If Japan grew 26 times between 1970 and 1995, and China by 22 times over the following 25 years, why not India?”

He highlighted manufacturing as key to job creation and balancing trade and emphasized India’s right to define its own energy path.
Rakesh Malhotra, president of GIDF, closed the event by underscoring the role of the diaspora in India’s development. “Together, we can make India a global economic powerhouse,” he said, reaffirming GIDF’s commitment to supporting India’s goals through innovation and collaboration.
