Gov. Newsom appoints Raj Bhutoria to California Youth Empowerment Commission
Bhutoria is the first Indian American male among the Commission's inaugural class of founding commissioners.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Indian-American political activist Raj Bhutoria to the state’s newly established Youth Empowerment Commission, which advises the state's authorities on youth-related issues.
The appointment makes Bhutoria, the first Indian American male among the Commission's inaugural class of founding commissioners and signifies a new era of inclusive representation and youth advocacy in the state.
Dedicated to youth advocacy since age 14, Bhutoria is a strong politcal activist urging California's youth to engage with the political system and assert their voices. He has worked with non-profits, government agencies, and grassroots movements to promote sustainable development, social justice, and educational reform. His mantra, “We may not have a vote yet, but we have a voice in our futures!” has motivated countless young Californians.

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people across California. I am committed to addressing the critical issues of our time, such as climate change, education affordability, and creating fair economic opportunities for our generation, ensuring that the voices of our youth are heard and acted upon.”
In the private sector, Bhutoria has worked to empower young people and create economic opportunities. He has also championed corporate social responsibility initiatives and fostered partnerships that align business success with community well-being.
Furthermore, the youngster advocates for sustainable policies to combat climate change and promote economic growth. He strives to make higher education more accessible and affordable. His vision for economic empowerment focuses on creating fair opportunities for young people through job creation, entrepreneurship, and inclusivity.
He calls on the youth of California, saying, “At this pivotal moment in our nation's history, we must unite and fight for what is right. Our future depends on our collective action, and together, we can shape a better tomorrow for all.”
The California Youth Empowerment Commission, established under Assembly Bill 46 by Assembly member Luz Rivas, will advise the Governor, State Legislature, and Superintendent of Public Instruction on youth-related issues. Its mission includes drafting model legislation to impact the state's younger population and involving young leaders in decision-making processes.
Assembly member Luz Rivas emphasized the importance of this initiative, “California is yet again leading the nation by creating a pathway to civic engagement between our young leaders and their government so that they can provide critical input on the policies affecting the future of our great state.”
