Amid global debate over the future of Donald Trump’s presidency, Jasdip Singh Jassee, chairman of Sikhs of America, remarked, “He consistently kept his promises.”
In an interview with New India Abroad, Singh shared, “Trump is a remarkable individual.”
Singh, the founder and chairman of Sikhs of America, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about Sikh culture and contributions to American society, highlighted Trump’s personal qualities.
He recalled his early support for Trump, noting that he was the first Sikh to back the former president, while his Pakistan-American friend, Sajid Tarar, was Trump’s first Muslim supporter.
Singh fondly remembered how, despite being surrounded by thousands at rallies, Trump would spot them and ensure they were well, showing genuine care for his supporters. “His generosity and humility were truly remarkable,” Singh remarked.
Singh also highlighted the strong relationship between the U.S. and India under Trump’s previous leadership, emphasizing the deep bond between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This was a golden age for both countries,” Singh said, adding that when the American economy thrived, it benefited everyone, including minorities.
He asserted, “President Trump and Prime Minister Modi share a strong bond and refer to each other as ‘dear friends’. President Trump repeatedly praises Modi, and Modi reciprocates those sentiments.”
Singh praised Trump for delivering on his promises, citing his decision to pardon individuals involved in the Jan. 6, 2020 events and his stance on energy policy.
Trump followed through on all the promises, Singh highlighted, “It shows in his character.” Drawing a contrast with former President Joe Biden, whom Singh criticized for making contradictory promises regarding pardons.
Reflecting on the challenges faced under the Biden administration, Singh mentioned the rise of Sikh extremism in certain segments of the community but expressed confidence that the issue would be addressed moving forward.
“Under Biden’s administration, we saw an uptick in Sikh extremism in some sections of the community,” he observed.
Singh strongly believes Trump’s leadership will bring about positive changes, including a swift economic recovery and a crackdown on illegal immigration.
He further explained that Trump is not opposed to minorities and had garnered significant support from diverse communities in this election.
“This election saw a significant increase in votes from Hispanics, African Americans, and even the South Asian community, who strongly supported President Trump,” he said.
“I also see an end to unnecessary conflicts, including in the Middle East, where even the rebel leader in Syria expressed hope for peace under President Trump’s leadership.”
He also praised Trump’s decisive actions during his first two days in office, noting his signing of over 100 executive orders and his clear direction for the country. “In the first two days of his presidency, he accomplished more than Biden did in four years,” Singh asserted.
Singh highlighted that this shift occurred across all agencies and departments.
“Regarding H-1B applicants, the long wait times for green cards and visa appointments, would soon have been a thing of the past. President Trump had already announced that 80,000 IRS officials would be reassigned to the border to address these issues,” Singh stated.
Singh concluded by exuding confidence that Trump’s leadership would continue delivering on his promises, focusing on strengthening the U.S.-India relationship, promoting peace, and ensuring a prosperous future for all Americans.
