Heera Shenoy, a dedicated volunteer at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, an active India Club member, has been named one of the nine winners of the 2025 Jefferson Awards for Public Service. The annual awards recognize individuals for outstanding community service, celebrating high-profile national figures and unsung local heroes.
Shenoy and eight other honorees will be recognized at a banquet on Mar.25, at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in downtown Lima. Cenovus Energy Lima Refinery, Hometown Stations, The Lima News, United Way of Greater Lima, Milano Cafe, and Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center sponsor the local awards.
The Jefferson Awards, established more than five decades ago, have honored over 65,000 individuals nationwide, including public figures, everyday citizens, employees, and young people who have significantly impacted their communities. This year’s winners include eight adults and one youth recipient, each receiving a monetary donation for their organization. Adult honorees will receive $350, sponsored by the family of Alberta Lee, while the youth recipient will receive $250, courtesy of Ed and Sandra Monfort.
Among the 2025 honorees are Stacey Myers Cook of Cridersville, recognized for her leadership in civic and historical groups, and Kera Dorsten of St. Marys, whose contributions include work with the Allen County Junior Fair Board and Family Promise. Others include Dave Halker of Columbus Grove, who mentors young fathers, and Judy Jacomet of Lima, a founder of the Allen County Council on Aging.
Penny Keller-Clark of Ada was honored for co-founding “Sole Mission,” a church-led initiative to collect shoes for the needy. Mark and Krista Nusbaum of Elida were recognized for their longstanding commitment to bringing holiday joy as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Betsy Potts of Elida was acknowledged for her work with veterans' families through the Veteran Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio, while Mandy Weimerskirch, founder of the Delphos Run Club, was celebrated for helping raise over $100,000 for various charities.
