The University of Houston College of Pharmacy (UHCOP) has launched the Institute of Muscle Biology and Cachexia (IMBC), a pioneering research and education center dedicated to understanding muscle biology and muscle-wasting disorders. The institute, the first of its kind in the Greater Houston area, is led by Ashok Kumar, Ph.D., Else and Philip Hargrove Endowed professor of drug discovery & development and professor of pharmacology.
Indian American Kumar brings extensive expertise to the role, having earned a Ph.D. in Tumor Biology from the University of Delhi and completing postdoctoral research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine. He also holds degrees in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Chemistry from institutions in India and the U.S.
