Koyyada Ravi Teja, a 26-year-old Indian national from Green Hills Colony in Hyderabad, was killed on Jan. 18, in New Haven, Connecticut.

Teja, who had been living in the United States since 2022, was working a part-time job delivering food when the incident occurred outside a building.

The Indian Consulate in New York expressed its condolences, writing on X, “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Mr. Ravi Teja in a shooting incident in New Haven, Connecticut. @IndiainNewYork is in touch with his family and is extending all possible assistance, including repatriation of his mortal remains to India.”

According to family members, Teja was confronted by robbers attempting to escape, and during the confrontation, he was shot point-blank. He suffered two bullet wounds and died on the spot. His family, back in Hyderabad, was devastated by the news.

Teja had recently completed his master's degree at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut and was actively seeking employment. After marriage, he was looking forward to settling in the US and eventually bringing his parents and younger sister to join him.

Teja’s sister, Shriya, had also recently graduated with a master's degree from a university in Chicago. The family had been eagerly anticipating a reunion, but the tragedy had left them heartbroken.

After Teja failed to return to his workplace, his employer contacted his roommate. Together, they tracked Teja's GPS to uncover the details of the shooting.

The family is awaiting the return of his body, while authorities continue their investigation into the shooting.
