International Cricket Council (ICC) chair Jay Shah met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach in Lausanne this week to discuss cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The meeting, held at the IOC headquarters, marked the first formal engagement between the two leaders and focused on building collaboration ahead of the Games.
Shah and Bach reportedly discussed critical areas of collaboration and long-term goals for cricket’s integration into the Olympic framework, highlighting the mutual benefits for athletes and fans worldwide.
Shah, accompanied by ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice, also attended the LA 2028 International Federations seminar, which brought together global sports leaders at the Olympic House. Discussions emphasized promoting Olympic values within cricket and exploring strategies to engage new audiences through the sport’s return to the Olympic program.
“We were delighted to meet with Thomas Bach and IOC officials, it was a productive meeting and an important milestone on the road to LA 2028. The inclusion of cricket in the Olympic Games represents a watershed moment for our sport and a real opportunity for transformative growth for 2028 and beyond,” Shah said.
The inclusion of cricket, last featured in the 1900 Paris Olympics, represents a pivotal moment for the sport. The ICC is aiming to capitalize on this opportunity to expand cricket’s global reach and align with the Olympic movement’s mission of unity and excellence.
