India leads in global AI skill penetration and talent concentration: Stanford report

From 2015 to 2023, India, the United States, and Germany had the highest AI skill penetration rates.

The Stanford University Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2024 highlights India as the global leader in AI skill penetration and talent concentration. 
This underscores the country's expanding role in the international Artificial Intelligence (AI) arena and reflects its significant investments in AI education and workforce development, establishing India as a major force in AI innovation.

The AI skill penetration rate measures how extensively AI skills are incorporated into different occupations or how often LinkedIn members utilize AI capabilities in their roles. From 2015 to 2023, India, the United States, and Germany had the highest AI skill penetration rates, with India leading at 2.8, followed by the United States at 2.2, and Germany at 1.9.

The Stanford data highlighted the countries with the highest concentrations of AI talent in 2023 with the percentage increase in AI talent concentration from 2016 onwards. During this period, several major economies saw substantial growth in their AI workforce. India, Cyprus, and Denmark experienced the most significant increases, with growth rates of 263 percent, 229 percent, and 213 percent, respectively.
