India raises concerns over arrest of Hindu leader in Bangladesh

The Indian government issued a statement on Nov. 26 expressing concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote.
Das was arrested on Nov. 25 amid ongoing tensions involving attacks on Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh.
The statement highlighted documented incidents of arson, looting of homes and businesses, vandalism, and the desecration of deities and temples, all reportedly targeting minority communities.
Indian authorities criticized the lack of accountability for those responsible for these acts while questioning the legal actions taken against Das, who they described as advocating legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings.
The Indian government also expressed concern over reports of attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against Das’s arrest.
In its statement, India urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and other minorities. It emphasized the importance of upholding their rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
This development follows calls from various minority rights organizations and groups for increased protection for vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.
