Sacramento’s Indian American community gathered to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, at two events organized by the Suvidha International Foundation in Rancho Cordova and Folsom. The celebrations showcased Indian culture, community unity, and the spirit of Diwali.
Rancho Cordova's Village Green Park transformed into a festive wonderland for the event adorned with lit diyas, colorful LED lights, and elaborate decorations. The event, attended by over 2,000 people, featured food stalls, cultural performances, and competitions.
Musical performances by the Gongura Singers and local artists captivated the audience, while traditional dances by Bharatanatyam and Parai groups added to the cultural richness. Rancho Cordova Vice Mayor Siri Pulipati addressed the crowd, highlighting the festival's unifying spirit.
The festivities continued at Folsom’s Pre Rodeo Stadium, drawing hundreds of attendees. The event featured live music, food stalls, and a "safe and sane" fireworks display. Councilmember Y.K. Chalamcherla praised Suvidha International Foundation for fostering community engagement through cultural celebrations.
Both events included competitions like rangoli design, cooking challenges, and traditional attire contests, with trophies awarded to winners. Volunteers played a key role in organizing the events, ensuring smooth execution.
Suvidha International Foundation founder Bhaskar Vempati thanked sponsors, volunteers, and local governments for their support. The events were sponsored by businesses and nonprofits, including Ruchi Indian Cuisine and Curry Plaza Folsom.
“The organizers behind our spectacular Diwali festivities deserve a huge thanks. The outdoor mela setup created a lively ambiance, while the exquisite classical dances and Diwali-themed cultural performances beautifully showcased our rich traditions,” an attendee commented.
