Indian-American community leader Jay Bhandari elected national delegate at Democratic Convention
He will represent Virginia.

Jay Bhandari, an influential Indian-American leader and president of GOPIO Virginia, has been elected as an official national delegate to the Democratic Convention in Chicago. The convention, scheduled from Aug.19 to Aug.21, will formally nominate Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.
Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Jay Bhandari secured his position as a national delegate during the state convention in Richmond, Virginia, where he received a majority vote. President Joe Biden has endorsed Bhandari's election.
"The nomination process would be completed by Democratic delegates’ votes from across the country," Bhandari stated. He is a lifelong member of the party and serves on the Central Committee of the Virginia Democratic Party.
Bhandari holds a Master's degree in Economics from Devi Ahilya University, Indore in India. In June 2010, GOPIO launched a chapter in Virginia under his leadership. Bhandari emphasizes the significant contributions of Indian-Americans in fostering strong relationships between India and the USA, promoting economic, social, educational, and cultural progress in both nations.
He noted: “Many people of Indian Origin (including GOPIO Virginia members) hold high positions in the US and are extremely accomplished and have demonstrated innovations and leadership in almost every field."
Jay Bhandari is himself a well-known leader in the Asian and Indian communities in both India and the United States. He is a former vice chair and commissioner of the Virginia Public School Authority Board and has served on the boards of several social, charitable, and religious organizations.
With over 25 years of experience in business and industry, he has held numerous appointments by the Indian and Madhya Pradesh governments. He is also the former president of the Jain Society of South Florida, a director at Jaina, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Eye Foundation of America.
