The Indian American Medical Association, Illinois (IAMA-IL) hosted a fundraising gala on Dec.7 at the Matrix Club, Naperville, to celebrate the completion of 44 years. The gala was organized by Radhika Chimata, president, IAMA-IL.
IAMA-IL is a non-profit organization of Illinois physicians, trainees, and medical students of Indian origin, dedicated to professional excellence and quality patient care.
The key feature of the gala included speeches from Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, US Representative for Illinois's 8th Congressional District, and Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh. The highlights of the evening were the award representation, a cocktail reception, a vendor expo, and a musical performance.
Ashok Fulambarker, MD, received the Distinguished Physician Award, and Samir Shah, MD, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other awards included the Dr. Usha Rani Nimmagadda Woman Physician Leadership Award given to Archana Chatterjee, MD.
For contributing to IAMA-IL and the community, Utpal Parekh, MD, Terrence Chiramel, MD, and Rajeev Kumar, MD were also honored.
Raja Krishnamoorthi and other special guests and community leaders present at IAMA-IL 44th celebrations / Asian Media USAGerard Moorer, Deputy Chief of Staff to Congressman Danny Davis, U.S. Representative from Illinois's 7th Congressional District, Tara Stamps, Cook County Board Commissioner for the 1st District, and Harry Benton, Illinois House Representative for District 97 were also present in the gala.
During the gala, Chimata, as the Board of Directors chair, shared her vision and objectives for the next year. The organization aims to continue fundraising initiatives and establish an extensive database of physical mentors for medical trainees. The organization also plans to boost IAMA-IL membership among third and second-generation Americans.
Awards spotlight: Distinguished physicians / Asian Media USADia Nicholas, CEO, Advocate Health, held a discussion panel with Chimata, Sreenivas Reddy, MD, and Shruti Nathan from Advocate Health; Nicholas also gave the keynote speech. The contemporary challenges that the physicians are facing like the reimbursement rates were discussed during the panel.
The musical performance featured the Ghungroo Bollywood dance troupe and an audio-video presentation directed by Sridevi Pandalai and creatives from Biju Zacharia. The audio-video presentation stood out with Shana Mohan’s smooth emceeing. During dinner, Chimata gave a lovely unplugged performance with guitarist Vikas Deo, ending the night with a lively concert by Orchestra Saregama.
IAMA welcomed their new President, Dr. Dilip Shah, and the 2025 executive committee for IAMA-IL’s 45th year.
