A 59-year-old Indian-American man, Hemant Mistry, died after being punched by a stranger in Grove, Oklahoma on June.22. Mistry, who was the general manager at a local motel, was found unconscious and taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

The altercation occurred when Mistry asked 41-year-old Richard Lewis to leave the motel property. At that point, Lewis punched Mistry to the ground. It is unclear if there was a verbal argument before the physical attack.

Video of the assault has now gone viral on social media with the police saying they are still investigating the matter.

“Lewis was later found at a hotel in the 1900 block of S. Meridian Ave. and arrested. Currently, the investigation is in the early stages,” said the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Mistry is survived by his wife Gitanjali and two kids. Gitanjali Mistry's Facebook page is filled with condolence messages. Their son, Kunal, also shared a heartfelt message on his Facebook page.

“My life will never be the same again,” he wrote. “Dad, you left us too early,” he continued. “You gave us everything. You worked so hard to ensure we had the best life possible. You were so selfless and helped everyone around you. Your dedication to your family and your work was admirable.” He hoped that he can be “half the man” is father was.

“Please continue to look after us, give me your strength and continue to guide me through this journey, don’t worry about mom, shivu and Yash, I got them, I will always have them just like you did. I love you dad. Rest in Peace my angel,” he said.

As per news reports, Mistry originally hails from Bilimor in Gujarat. He was an active member of the Gujarati Samaj of Oklahoma Inc, where he drove donation campaigns.
