At the 2024 AOCS annual meeting in Montreal, Dr. Raj Shah, director of Koehler Instrument Company in New York, was inducted as a Fellow by the American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS).

One of the society's most prestigious awards, the fellowship recognizes individuals for exceptional contributions to the fields of oils, fats, and surfactants, with achievements spanning research, industrial advancements, leadership, and education. The society aims to promote the science and technology of oils and related materials, enhancing lives globally.

In a statement read at the event, Shah expressed gratitude toward his mentors and colleagues, particularly mentioning Dr. Sevim Erhan, a mentor for over three decades. Erhan accepted the award on Shah’s behalf, as he could not attend in person.

This honor is one of numerous accolades that Shah has received this year. In recognition of his contributions to the technical literature in the lubricating grease industry, he was recently awarded the Clarence E. Earle Memorial Award at the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) annual meeting in Toronto. This award was given in particular to him for his co-editing of the Grease Guidebook, a reference work for industry professionals.

Shah also received the Golden Grease Gun Award, making him the first individual to be awarded both honors in a single year. He has been similarly recognized by other scientific societies. In 2024, he was elevated to Fellow at the Institute of Physics, Institute of Chemical Engineers, Royal Society of Chemistry, and Institute of Measurement and Control.

Additionally, he also holds the rare designation of Chartered Petroleum Engineer by the Energy Institute, making him one of only seven individuals in the United States to receive the title. Shah’s career in laboratory instrumentation for petroleum testing includes over 675 publications, and he has received multiple awards from ASTM International.

Shah, a distinguished alumnus of the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University.
