Indian contingent prepares for 2024 World Pool Championships

The Indian pool contingent is gearing up for the 2024 World Pool Championships, set to take place from Sept. 2-8 at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton, New Zealand.
The event, part of the Pro Billiard Series, will see 184 players from across the globe competing for a $425,000 prize fund. The competition will be streamed live on the Pro BilliardTV YouTube channel.
Leading the Indian team is Chetan Chhabra, a prominent figure in the world of 9-ball pool, currently ranked 105th globally. Chhabra is not only a top player but also a major promoter of cue sports in India, organizing high-profile tournaments and serving as a distributor for major pool brands.
Joining Chhabra is Chitra Magimairaj, a seasoned professional with an impressive track record in snooker, English billiards, and pool. Magimairaj, a two-time World Ladies Billiards and Snooker Association World Champion, has been honored with the Kempegowda and Ekalavya Awards for her contributions to sports. Her highest breaks include 91 in snooker and 49 in English billiards.
Another key player, Aradhana Naik, brings her experience from the Karnataka State Billiard Association. Naik, ranked No. 5 in India for the 10-ball championship, has represented India in international events, including the US Open 9-Ball Championship and the Asian Championship.
Rounding out the team is Tanvee Vallem, a rising star in the juniors division. Vallem, from Hyderabad, first represented India at the 2022 World Pool Championships at just 8 years old. This year, she secured top positions in various U.S. state championships, highlighting her potential.
The Indian contingent, featuring a mix of experienced players and emerging talents, is poised to make a significant impact on the global stage at the 2024 World Pool Championships, with the match featuring different formats.
Ishaun Singh, President of the World Pool Association, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating: “Embracing the rich tapestry of talent from around the globe, the World Pool Association eagerly anticipates the forthcoming Men’s World 8-Ball Championship, Women’s World 9-Ball Championship, and the World Junior Championship set to unfold in the picturesque setting of New Zealand this September.
