Three-time Grammy-winning composer and environmentalist Ricky Kej is a man on a mission. Known for his evocative music and tireless advocacy for the environment, Kej's passion extends far beyond the recording studio. On Oct.21, during National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, Kej stood at the helm of Pure Earth’s 25th Anniversary Benefit in New York. The event celebrated the organization's two-and-a-half decades of impactful work while highlighting the urgent need to combat lead pollution—a silent yet pervasive global crisis.

Hosted in collaboration with key stakeholders such as USAID, UNICEF, and First Lady Jill Biden, the event was also a platform to raise awareness about staggering statistics. According to a recent report by Lancet Planetary Health, lead exposure contributes to 5.5 million cardiovascular deaths annually and causes a loss of 765 million IQ points in children worldwide. Kej’s role as the event's host reflected the convergence of his artistry and activism. “Hosting this benefit was about more than celebration,” he explains. “It was about inspiring people to recognize their role in driving change and supporting Pure Earth in preventing further lead poisoning globally.”
