Indian man gets 12 years in US prison for attempting sexual activity with minor
Aduru (32) persistently attempted to arrange a meeting with the supposed 13-year-old girl.
An Indian national has been sentenced by a United States federal court to 12 years in jail and 10 years of supervised release for attempting to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.
United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced that the accused, Upendra Aduru, 32, was an Indian national studying in the United States on a student visa. From Sept. 20, 2022, to Oct. 6, 2022, Aduru engaged in social media conversations with a detective who was pretending to be a 13-year-old girl.
Court documents revealed that throughout the conversations, Aduru consistently expressed his interest in engaging in sexual activities with the supposed 13-year-old and even shared several adult pornography images with the undercover detective.
Aduru persistently attempted to arrange a meeting with the girl and eventually traveled to a park in Millcreek Township for the planned encounter. He was apprehended upon arrival. A subsequent search of his phone uncovered the social media exchanges between him and the undercover detective.
This case is part of ‘Project Safe Childhood’, a nationwide effort initiated by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address the rising issue of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Managed by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to track down, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children sexually, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
