A US court on Apr. 1 convicted Pankaj Singh Bohra, an Indian national, for possession of materials involving sexual exploitation of minors. Bohra, 35, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, five years of supervised release, sex offender registration, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
Bohra, a former employee of Carnival Cruise Lines, was arrested in July 2024 after special agents with the US Department of Homeland Security found him in possession of child pornography at the Erato Street Cruise Terminal in New Orleans.
According to a statement by the US Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Louisiana, this case was part of Project Safe Childhood which was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. It’s a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
