Two Indian-origin University of California (UC) alumni, Abhay Joshi and Radhakrishnan Nagarajan, have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of the highest honors in the field. They are among 128 new members and 22 international members in the NAE’s Class of 2025, recognized for their outstanding contributions to engineering practice, research, and education.
The awardees represent four University of California campuses—UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UCLA, and UC San Diego along with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In addition, 15 UC alumni from six campuses have been included in this year's distinguished group.
Reacting to the honor, he shared on LinkedIn, “It is a great honor and privilege, given that this election covers all fields of engineering. This is about the high point in anyone’s engineering career.”
NAE membership is awarded to individuals who have pioneered new fields of technology, made significant advancements in traditional engineering fields, or introduced innovative approaches to engineering education. The newly elected members will be formally inducted at the academy’s annual meeting in October 2025.
