Working as a senior cybersecurity advisor at tech giant Google, Indian-origin expert Sri Gourisetti shed light on his role and the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world.
Speaking to his alma mater, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock), Gourisetti explained his work within Google’s office of the chief information security officers (CISO). “Our team acts as trusted advisors to Chief Information Security Officers and other executives. My focus is on guiding companies through secure digital transformation initiatives, leveraging Cloud and AI,” he said.
Gourisetti specializes in helping manufacturing and energy companies navigate cybersecurity risks while adopting innovative technologies. “Our work goes beyond troubleshooting; we help companies integrate security into their long-term digital strategies, which is critical in industries like manufacturing and energy,” he added.
In addition to his work at Google, Gourisetti contributes to academia as a visiting assistant professor at UA Little Rock, teaching courses such as Security Operations, Cyber Risk Management, and Systems Security. “Working at Google allows me to bring real-world scenarios into the classroom, making the material dynamic and relevant,” he explained.
Gourisetti also highlighted the pressing demand for cybersecurity professionals, encouraging students to think long-term about their careers. “The cybersecurity field is hungry for talent,” he said. “Students should align their passions with areas where they can make a societal impact. When they focus on contributing to a better future, opportunities will naturally come their way.”
Before joining Google, Gourisetti gained extensive experience working at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he managed cybersecurity projects for the U.S. Department of Energy and DARPA. He also worked with National Resilience, addressing biopharmaceutical supply chain vulnerabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally from India, Gourisetti earned his undergraduate degree there before arriving in the U.S. in 2007 through a student exchange program at UA Little Rock. He later completed bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees at the university, focusing on engineering and systems science.
