Two Indian-origin Canadian men, Vanshpreet Singh, 27, and Manpreet Singh, 36, have been arrested on charges of cocaine possession and trafficking following a major drug bust worth over $40 million. The operation uncovered 1,146 pounds of high-purity cocaine concealed in a Volvo semi-trailer on Interstate 80 during a routine vehicle inspection by Illinois State Police (ISP).
Authorities believe the seized cocaine is part of a broader international trafficking network linked to terror funding. According to CBS News, the drugs were reportedly routed through Canada by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to fund activities including Khalistani separatism and other anti-India operations.
ISP Director Brendan Kelly praised the department’s efforts to curb trafficking. “ISP’s coordinated focus on trafficking is helping keep dangerous drugs out of our communities. From commercial motor vehicle inspections to daily patrol to targeted anti-violence and trafficking details, ISP is making communities safer,” Kelly said.
The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in combating drug-related crime and its implications for national security. Investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the trafficking ring and their operations.
