Indian-Origin Mizzou faculty members named Curators' Distinguished Professors
The professors received the professorship for outstanding scholarly achievements.
The University of Missouri (Mizzou) Board of Curators has awarded its highest academic honor, the Curators' Distinguished Professorship, to Indian-origin faculty members Prasad Calyam and Roman Ganta, amongst others.
The designation recognizes their outstanding scholarly achievements and contributions to their fields.
Prasad Calyam, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, holds the Greg L. Gilliom Professorship in Cyber Security. He also serves as the director of the Cyber Education, Research and Infrastructure Center (CERI) at Mizzou.
His research interests span cloud computing, cybersecurity, and computer networking, areas in which he has published over 185 papers. Calyam has secured funding for numerous research projects from organizations such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Energy (DOE), and National Security Agency (NSA).
His work has also led to the commercialization of network monitoring tools like 'Narada Metrics.' He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from Ohio State University and his B.E. from Bangalore University.
Roman Ganta, the McKee Endowed Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine, is another honoree. Ganta is a leading expert in veterinary pathobiology and vector-borne diseases.
Before joining the University of Missouri, he was a University Distinguished Professor at Kansas State University, where he founded the Center of Excellence for Vector-borne Diseases in 2015.
Ganta holds a Ph.D. from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and advanced degrees in biochemistry from Andhra University. He is recognized internationally for his research on tick-borne infections.
