Indian-origin physician dismissed from firm after sex-related offences
His admission followed the release of a hidden camera video by conservative podcaster Steven Crowder, where Varma was recorded discussing his actions during the pandemic.

Former New York City COVID-19 czar, Dr. Jay Varma, has been dismissed from his position as executive vice president and chief medical officer at SIGA Technologies following his admission of attending sex parties during the height of the pandemic.
The company's decision to fire Varma was disclosed in the firm's Securities and Exchange Commission filing dated Sept 23. According to reports, Varma admitted to participating in two sex parties in 2020, while he was advising New Yorkers to avoid gatherings to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, Varma admitted to attending a dance party with around 200 people in June 2021, after leaving his city role and working as a consultant.

His admission followed the release of a hidden camera video by conservative podcaster Steven Crowder, where Varma was recorded discussing his actions during the pandemic.
In the same footage, Varma boasted about his role in enforcing vaccine mandates, which notably prevented Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving from playing basketball after he refused the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to CBS News, Varma apologized for his actions, stating that he had been "targeted by an operative for an extremist right-wing organization."
He claimed the video was "spliced, diced, and taken out of context," referring to events that occurred four years ago. "I take responsibility for not using the best judgment at the time," Varma added. However, he stood by his efforts to vaccinate New Yorkers and criticized attempts to undermine public trust in vaccines.
