Indian-origin physician pleads guilty to healthcare fraud in Chicago
The federal prosecutors allege that Mona Ghosh is accountable for at least $2.4 million in fraudulently obtained reimbursements.

A 51-year-old Indian-origin physician in Chicago has pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud charges by Medicaid and private insurers for services that were never provided.
The doctor, identified as Mona Ghosh, who owned and operated Progressive Women’s Healthcare, S.C., a medical office specializing in obstetrics and gynecology services, engaged in fraudulent activities from 2018 to 2022. During this period, Ghosh, along with her employees, submitted false claims to Medicaid, TRICARE, and several other insurers for procedures and services that were either not provided, not medically necessary, or performed without patient consent.
Ghosh also exaggerated the length and complexity of in-office and telemedicine visits, using billing codes that did not qualify to seek higher reimbursement rates, according to her plea agreement. She admitted to preparing false patient medical records to support these fraudulent reimbursement claims.
A resident of Inverness in Illinois, Ghosh pleaded guilty on June.27 to two counts of healthcare fraud. Each count carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison.
The government contends that Ghosh is responsible for at least $2.4 million in fraudulently obtained reimbursements. In the plea agreement, Ghosh admitted accountability for over $1.5 million of these fraudulent reimbursements. The final amount will be determined by the court at sentencing.
Ghosh's plea agreement stated that she will plead guilty because she is indeed guilty of the charges contained in Counts Four and Eleven of the indictment.
