Indian-origin student, Sudiksha Konanki, was reported missing while vacationing at a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, authorities said.
Konanki, a permanent U.S. resident from Chantilly, Virginia, was last seen early on March 6 morning on the beach of the Riu República Hotel, according to the Dominican National Emergency System.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) in Virginia confirmed in a press release that it is assisting in the search for Konanki alongside federal agencies, including the U.S. State Department, FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
“LCSO is working closely with our federal partners… in support of the ongoing investigation by the Dominican National Police,” the statement read.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin addressed the ongoing search efforts in a social media statement, saying, “My administration is working closely with federal and local partners as the search continues for Sudiksha Konanki. Thank you to Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman and FBI Director Kash Patel for your ongoing efforts. If you have any information, please reach out to the numbers below.”
According to ABC News, three Dominican officials involved in the case said Konanki was walking on the beach with six people on March 5 before she is believed to have drowned in the ocean. A Dominican investigative police report states that most of the group returned to the hotel, but one person remained with her. The two later went for a swim and were caught by a large wave.
The Dominican Republic Public Ministry told ABC News that Konanki was last seen on security footage at around 4:15 a.m. on March 6. The U.S. embassy in the Dominican Republic was alerted the following day, on March 7.
Authorities have questioned Konanki’s friends who were with her at the time but have not filed any charges, ABC News reported.
The Indian Embassy in the Dominican Republic has taken the lead in coordinating with U.S. and Dominican authorities. The Indian Embassy, stated on social media that it was “extending all assistance in coordination with government authorities of the Dominican Republic.”
Search operations are being conducted by multiple agencies, including the Dominican Navy, Civil Defense, and the Tourism Police. The Dominican National Emergency System confirmed that four drone teams equipped with advanced technology have been deployed to search the coastal area of Bávaro.
The search efforts are ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding Konanki’s disappearance.
