In a tragic incident, 25-year-old Bandi Vamshi, an Indian student from Hanumakonda district in Telangana, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Minnesota, United States, on December 22, 2024. His body was discovered in a car parked in the cellar of his apartment complex.
According to reports, Vamshi had traveled to the United States in July 2023 to pursue a Master of Science degree and worked part-time while studying.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed condolences, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “Our deep condolences to friends and family of Shri Vamshi Bandi, who passed away last evening. Consulate is working with the local diaspora and relatives of the departed for all possible help and support.”
Fellow Indian students residing in the same apartment complex found Vamshi’s body and informed his parents. His father, Bandi Rajayya, a weaver, and mother, Lalitha, are mourning the loss of their son.
Congress party in-charge for Huzurabad constituency, Voditala Pranav, extended his sympathies to the family and assured assistance in coordinating with the Telangana government to repatriate Vamshi’s mortal remains to India.
This tragedy follows the death of 22-year-old Nukarapu Sai Teja, an Indian MBA student from Telangana, who was fatally shot during a robbery at a Chicago shopping mall on November 30. These back-to-back incidents have raised concerns within the Indian diaspora about the safety of students in the United States.
