Indiaspora welcomed the strengthening of the U.S.-India relations following the high-profile meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump on Feb. 13 in Washington DC.
Emphasizing the leaders’ personal rapport and the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations, the nonprofit highlighted the significance of Modi being among the first world leaders to meet Trump in his second term.
“Indiaspora welcomes the commitment by Prime Minister Modi and President Trump to prioritize the U.S.-India relationship, which is reinforced by the strong personal rapport between these leaders and the enduring partnership between the two great democracies,” said Indiaspora founder and chairman MR Rangaswami.
“We are confident that the global Indian diaspora will continue to serve as a vital bridge between these nations, fostering deeper collaboration that enhances prosperity, innovation, security, and well-being for both American and Indian citizens.”
The meeting comes at a critical juncture in U.S.-India relations, with both leaders addressing key issues such as trade, defense cooperation, and regional security. Indiaspora noted that while differences on issues like tariffs and immigration persist, the broad bipartisan support for stronger ties between the two democracies presents an opportunity for meaningful dialogue.
Indiaspora executive director, Sanjeev Joshipura underscored the importance of maintaining momentum in the relationship. “The strong bipartisan consensus supporting Indo-U.S. relations creates a unique opportunity for both nations to demonstrate global leadership and advance their national interests. While India and the United States navigate complex bilateral challenges—as is natural in any significant partnership—the relationship is broad and mature enough to take differing opinions in stride.”
The meeting also highlighted the growing role of Indian Americans in the U.S. government, a trend Indiaspora views as a testament to the diaspora’s commitment to public service across party lines. The organization expressed optimism that this development will further strengthen ties between the two nations.
