Kohinoor Banquets officially opened its doors at 4400 Oakton Street, Illinois on Apr.11, 2025, welcoming community members, local leaders, and families from across the area to mark the occasion. The evening brought together a cross-section of Skokie’s residents and suburban neighbors to celebrate the launch of a new venue designed for weddings, graduations, birthdays, and milestone gatherings.
The new banquet hall, created by owner Abdul Aziz, occupies the second floor of a former corporate building transformed over time into a functional event space that can accommodate up to 275 guests.
“It was a long journey,” said Ashfaq Sharief, who hosted the event and recalled how the project came together. Sharief shared how Aziz’s vision, along with the efforts of the general contractor Shoib Aftab, turned an ordinary office floor into what is now a modern venue intended to meet the needs of Skokie and its surrounding communities.
The evening also featured remarks from newly elected Skokie Mayor Ann Tennes, who spoke about the significance of the new venue for the local community. “It’s such an honour to be here on the first night of this beautiful space,” Tennes said. “Your hard work shows, and I’m grateful you chose Skokie and persevered to build this facility.”
Longtime community leader and the night’s chief guest, Iftekhar Shareef, highlighted the practical benefits of the banquet hall, pointing out that local families would no longer have to travel long distances for their celebrations. “We used to drive 35 to 45 miles to book an event, but now it’s just five miles away,” Shareef said.
The opening of Kohinoor Banquets comes at a time when the demand for mid-sized, modern event spaces in Skokie has outpaced supply, with older facilities like the nearby Holiday Inn no longer meeting community needs. Aziz’s new venture aims to fill that gap, offering a local option that emphasizes quality, attention to detail, and community-centered service.
