The UK government has confirmed its support for the Graduate Route visa, a popular post-study work option for international graduates, especially from India.

The National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) announced the India-UK Achievers Honours event. Supported by groups like the British Council, this event celebrates the achievements of Indian students and graduates in the UK. NISAU Chair Sanam Arora highlighted the honors as a way to recognize the positive impact of UK-educated Indian alumni.

At the event, the UK’s International Education Champion confirmed that the new Labor government will keep the Graduate Route visa as it is. This visa allows bachelor’s and master’s graduates to stay in the UK for two years post-study, with PhD graduates eligible for three years.

The Graduate Route offers flexibility, allowing graduates to work in any role without sponsorship or a set salary requirement. Professor Steve Smith, the UK Government's International Education Champion and former vice-chancellor of the University of Exeter (2002-2020), highlighted India as a key focus, emphasizing the benefits many Indian students gain from this visa.

This confirmation reassures international students that the Graduate Route will continue to offer valuable work opportunities in the UK.
