The states of Michigan and Mississippi have officially declared October 2024 as Hindu Heritage Month, a significant celebration of cultural diversity that acknowledges the contributions of the Hindu American community to the social and economic vitality of the nation.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s proclamation highlights Hinduism as the third-largest religion in the world, with a growing presence in Michigan. "The Hindu heritage, culture, and traditions often serve as a source of inspiration, reflection, and contemplation for the millions who look to Hindu teachings for guidance," Whitmer stated.

The proclamation further acknowledges the significant contributions of Hindu Americans to Michigan's diversity and prosperity. Throughout October, the state will celebrate Hindu culture, history, and achievements.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves also issued a proclamation, affirming the state's appreciation for its Hindu community. He praised the contributions of Mississippians of Hindu Indian descent, particularly during the nine-day Shardiya Navratri festival and the upcoming Diwali celebrations from October 29 to November 3. “From our family to yours, Happy Diwali,” Reeves said, adding that the Hindu community has enriched Mississippi with their vibrant traditions and accomplishments.

The proclamations from both states reflect a broader national movement to recognize Hindu Heritage Month, offering an opportunity for communities to better understand and celebrate the rich history and cultural contributions of Hindu Americans across the United States.
