The William Davidson Institute (WDI) at the University of Michigan has named Rajat Chabba as its senior director of innovation and partnerships, a newly created role aimed at enhancing the Institute’s impact in fostering enterprise acceleration and innovation ecosystems in emerging markets.
Chabba, who brings over a decade of experience across sectors including women’s health, infectious diseases, and climate health, will spearhead strategic partnerships and initiatives to empower innovators and entrepreneurs globally, an official statement noted.
Prior to joining WDI, Chabba served as technical director for market solutions at Jhpiego’s Innovations Hub, where he led private sector engagements to drive health impacts across Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. He also established Jhpiego’s Worldwide Innovation Support Hub, providing guidance to over 100 social innovators navigating complex health systems.
“With its expertise in energy, climate and health, WDI is primed to create, support and accelerate entrepreneurial ecosystems in low- and middle-income countries,” Chabba said. “I’m excited to work across innovation, platform, and ecosystem levels in emerging markets to create new collaborations that support innovators and entrepreneurs.”
At WDI, Chabba will address challenges such as the financing gap for startups in emerging markets by exploring alternative models like impact investing, blended finance, and public-private partnerships.
Wendy Taylor, WDI president and CEO, praised Chabba’s ability to connect stakeholders, calling his appointment a step forward in WDI’s mission as an enterprise accelerator and systems catalyst.
Chabba holds an MBBS from BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, India and a Master’s in rural management from the Institute of Rural Management Anand, Gujarat (IRMA). He has also been recognized with the Acumen Fellowship (2015) and the League of Intrapreneurship Fellowship (2021).
