Nimai Patel, a senior at Midland Dow, received the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award. The MHSAA 2025 Class A Scholar-Athlete Award recipients were announced on Feb. 18.
This honor recognizes high-achieving student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics, and community involvement.
Patel’s achievements in academics, leadership, and athletics have earned him a $2,000 scholarship as part of the MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award program. He will be honored at the MHSAA Boys Basketball Finals in East Lansing on Mar. 15.
Patel has had an impressive career on the tennis court, playing four seasons of varsity tennis.
He helped his team win two Lower Peninsula Division 2 Finals championships and secured No. 4 singles flight titles as a sophomore and junior. His leadership as team co-captain during his senior year earned him all-state honors and honorable mention as a sophomore.
Beyond athletics, Patel is an AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of the National Honor Society. He has actively contributed to his community through his involvement with the Midland Area Youth Action Council and his role as a student representative on his school district’s Engineering Board.
Additionally, Patel has served as the director of his school's robotics team, leading them in their fourth year of competition. His work in the Space Farmers program earned him first place at the NASA & Growing Beyond Earth symposium and recognition as a finalist in the Buildspace Competition.
The MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award is a prestigious honor recognizing high school seniors who excel in both academics and athletics. To be eligible, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA, have earned a varsity letter in a sport sponsored by the MHSAA, and demonstrate active participation in extracurricular and community activities. The 32 recipients of the award each receive a $2,000 college scholarship.
