Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced a significant donation from the Nagaraj family, aimed at supporting students experiencing food insecurity.
Lavanya Nagaraj, board-certified dermatologist with Blue Ridge Dermatology, and Sharat Nagaraj, founder of Raleigh-based technology firm Celito and member of the Wake Tech Board of Trustees, have established the Nagaraj Family Nest Endowment through the Wake Tech Foundation.
The endowment will serve as a permanent funding source for The Nest, Wake Tech’s on-campus food pantry, ensuring bulk food items are consistently available to students in need.
“We are grateful to Lavanya and Sharat for their kind and generous spirit,” said Matt Smith, vice president of development and strategic partnerships at Wake Tech. “Their dedication to Wake Tech and our students will have a lasting legacy.”
The Nest provides accessible, free food pantries across Wake Tech campuses, offering monthly shopping opportunities, nutrition education, and connections to community resources. Students can place customized food orders online or in-person to match their preferences and dietary requirements.
“We’re honored to support The Nest and Wake Tech’s commitment to ensuring students have access to essential resources,” the Nagarajs said. “Our hope is that this endowment will contribute to the incredible work already being done to help students succeed.”
Serving approximately 1,000 students annually, The Nest is a vital part of Wake Tech’s Care Center, which provides comprehensive guidance and support to help students achieve their educational and career aspirations.
