The National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NIT-T) honored 12 individuals with the Distinguished Alumni Awards 2024 celebrating their exemplary achievements in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship.
This year’s recipients include five Indian-Americans who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields, bringing global recognition to the institute.
Devesh Ranjan, a 2003 mechanical engineering graduate, was awarded for Excellence in Academic/Research/Innovation/Invention. A faculty member at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Ranjan has significantly advanced research in power conversion and fluid mechanics under extreme conditions. Serving as the Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair, he has earned accolades including the NSF CAREER Award and the DOE-Early Career Award, cementing his place as a leader in mechanical engineering research.
Hari Mahadevan, a 1983 chemical engineering alumnus and founder of Mahadevan Consulting LLC, received the Excellence in Corporate/Industry award.
Known for his entrepreneurial ventures and strategic acumen, Mahadevan has been pivotal in private equity deals and organizational growth, focusing on impactful leadership and mentorship. Previously, he served as an executive officer at Rosetta, and strategy consultant at McKinsey & Co.
Suresh Krishna, a 1991 mechanical engineering graduate, was recognized for Excellence in Corporate/Industry for his leadership as president and CEO of Northern Tool & Equipment, a Minnesota-based multi-channel retailing company.
“I'm deeply grateful to my alma mater NIT-Tiruchirappalli for recognizing my professional journey with this year's Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA). To my fellow alumni and professionals: stay curious, keep learning, and never underestimate the power of persistence and the need for all of us to “pay it forward,” Krishna said on receiving the award.
Tirumanjanam Kannan Rengarajan, a 1983 mechanical engineering alumnus, who retired as corporate vice president at Microsoft, was recognized for Excellence in Corporate/Industry. He was lauded for his leadership recognizing his contributions to Microsoft’s growth.
In the category of Excellence in Entrepreneurial Venture, Siva Namasivayam, a 1985 computer science alumnus, was honored for founding Cohere Health, a Boston-based healthcare solutions company. His leadership has impacted over 50 Fortune 500 clients, advancing healthcare analytics and operational efficiency.
The awards were presented during a ceremony on Jan.11 underscoring NIT-T’s legacy of producing global leaders across industries, and celebrating their relentless pursuit of innovation, impact, and excellence.
