West Virginia University (WVU) will honor Indian American investment executive Nitin Kumbhani with a presidential honorary degree during its Commencement ceremony on Dec. 21.
The recognition celebrates Kumbhani’s outstanding achievements in software development and investment management.
Originally from Mumbai, India, Kumbhani, a 1971 graduate of WVU with a degree in electrical engineering, attributes much of his success to the scholarship support he received at the University.
After completing his studies, he founded Source Data Systems, which played a pioneering role in developing ATM software used by over 100 major banks worldwide. The company was later acquired by a Fortune 500 firm.
In 1987, Kumbhani founded Apex Capital Management, where he became a leader in small- and mid-cap investment strategies in the U.S. His innovative work in the investment sector has shaped the industry, earning him widespread recognition.
In 2023, he was inducted into the Statler College Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Distinguished Alumni Academy.
Kumbhani will receive his honorary degree during the 2 p.m.(local time) ceremony, where he will be celebrated alongside graduates from WVU’s various schools and colleges.
