NSU names Neeru Deep as Gallaspy Family College dean

Deep will oversee academic programs, workforce development initiatives, faculty collaboration, student engagement, and partnerships with local education agencies at NSU.

Northwestern State University (NSU) has appointed Neeru Deep as dean of the Gallaspy Family College of Education and Human Development. Her appointment was approved by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.

Deep, a faculty member at NSU since 2002, previously served as interim dean and chaired the department of psychology. In the new role, she is committed to workforce development initiatives, including the NSU Child and Family Network, NSU Healthcare ACE, and Louisiana Title IV-E Program.

“I am thrilled to have Deep leading the Gallaspy Family College of Education and Human Development,” said executive vice president and provost Greg Handel. 

“She possesses a wealth of experiences that make her a unique leader for the college, and she brings perspectives that will help the college evolve as it strives to serve an ever-changing educational and human development student accessing its programs,” Handel added. 

“My vision is that our college will become the leader in the field by providing innovative, collaborative and transformative experiences for our faculty, students, and staff, where everyone will receive the utmost respect,” said Deep.

“I envision collaborative success. I am grateful to my dedicated team for pouring their heart into bringing the best experience for our students,” she added. 

Deep, who has 24 years of teaching experience, received the Arthur Watson Endowed Professorship in Academic Accommodations and was named NSU’s Outstanding Faculty Advisor in 2008. She has completed leadership training at Harvard and Yale and founded NSU’s Center for Positivity, Well-being, and Hope.

She holds multiple degrees from Panjab University, India, and a Doctor of Education from NSU.

The college includes the School of Education and the departments of psychology and addiction studies, health and human performance, social work, and military sience and leadership. Deep will also oversee NSU’s child development and lab schools and collaborate with the Natchitoches Parish School Board.
