Pokhrama foundation fundraiser to support rural education in Bihar, India
The Foundation’s goal is to deliver world-class education to rural children, enabling them to compete on a global level.

A fundraiser was held at Trinity Church in Princeton, NJ, to support the Pokhrama Foundation, an organization working to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged children in rural Bihar, India. The event was hosted by Kuleen Singh and Kunwar Singh, bringing together community members to back the Foundation’s mission of empowering children through education.
The Pokhrama Foundation was established in 2016 by Ajay Singh, a pharmaceutical entrepreneur based in the United States. Born in Pokhrama village in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, Singh’s commitment to education stems from his personal experiences. Acknowledging the sacrifices his parents made to provide him with quality education and understanding the challenges faced by children in his native village, Singh sought to bridge the gap.
The Foundation’s goal is to deliver world-class education to rural children, enabling them to compete on a global level. Speaking at the event, Singh highlighted the organization’s focus on creating a sustainable educational model that includes holistic support for students.
Attendees. / Courtesy Photo.The Pokhrama Foundation Academy currently educates 325 students from five villages in Lakhisarai. A significant portion of the Foundation’s efforts is directed at promoting girls’ education; in 2023, 32 of the 57 students admitted were girls. The Foundation also runs a continuing education program to assist high school dropouts in preparing for university entrance exams.
Ajay Singh was recently awarded the Bihar Vishwa Gaurav Samman by the Bihar Foundation USA for his contributions to the state’s development. This recognition has bolstered support for the Foundation’s initiatives, which rely heavily on community backing.
During the fundraiser, Singh outlined the Foundation’s priorities, including the installation of solar panels, biogas plants, and playground equipment, as well as covering operational costs such as teachers’ salaries. While the event raised substantial funds, Singh emphasized that more support is needed to sustain and expand the organization’s initiatives.
Individuals interested in contributing can sponsor a child’s education, provide school supplies, or support infrastructure projects like solar panel installations, which cost an estimated $65,000.
