Pradeep Sharma to lead Cullen College of Engineering as dean
Sharma's research in flexoelectricity has garnered international acclaim, contributing to advancements in healthcare and robotics.

The University of Houston (UH) has apointed Indian American Pradeep Sharma as dean of its Cullen College of Engineering effective July.1.
Sharma, currently serving as the interim dean, joined the faculty in 2004. Since then he has held significant roles including chair of the mechanical engineering department for 12 years.
Sharma's research in flexoelectricity has garnered international acclaim, contributing to advancements in healthcare and robotics. His scholarly achievements have earned him prestigious accolades such as membership in the National Academy of Engineering and recognition from the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
UH senior vice president for academic affairs and provost Diane Z. Chase praised Sharma's appointment, noting, "His vision and leadership will be instrumental in guiding the Cullen College of Engineering to even greater heights. He is committed to building upon the college’s strong foundation and further advancing its reputation for excellence in research, education, and innovation."
Sharma succeeds Joseph W. Tedesco, who served as dean for 16 years before stepping down in 2023. Established in 1941, the Cullen College of Engineering is one of UH’s oldest academic units, offering a comprehensive range of degrees and recently expanding with the addition of the Technology Division.
"I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to elevating the reputation of the Cullen College of Engineering," Sharma emphasized. "It is important that others recognize its global impact, and I will work diligently to spotlight the work of our faculty, staff, and alumni."
