President Droupadi Murmu honored 27 distinguished members of the Indian diaspora with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award on Jan. 10 at the valedictory session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Among the awardees were three Indian Americans—Sharad Lakhanpal, Sharmila Ford, and Ravi Kumar S—recognized for their contributions to lndia and the global community.
Speaking at the event, President Murmu commended the Indian diaspora for their role in promoting India’s values and ethos worldwide. “The Indian diaspora represents the best of our country. Whether in technology, medicine, arts, or entrepreneurship, they have made a mark that the world acknowledges and respects,” she said.
Expressing his gratitude, Ravi Kumar S said, “I am deeply honored to receive the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award. This recognition is a reflection of Cognizant's steadfast commitment to India's growth story. With nearly 70 percent of our 340,000-strong global workforce based in India, we are focused on advancing AI-first capabilities, driving innovation, and reinforcing India’s position as a global leader in digital talent.”
President Murmu highlighted the significance of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention as a platform for fostering collaboration and strengthening ties between India and its diaspora. She emphasized the diaspora's vital role in achieving India’s vision of Viksit Bharat—a developed India by 2047. “The Indian diaspora is an integral part of this vision. Their achievements place them in a position to significantly contribute to the realization of a developed India,” she noted.
As the event concluded, President Murmu called for the diaspora’s active engagement in India’s progress. “Together, we can build a Viksit Bharat, a nation that stands tall on the global stage and continues to be a beacon of light for the world,” she remarked.
