Prof. Karamjeet Singh Chahal, currently serving as a professor in the Department of Architecture at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, has been appointed as the new registrar of the University. This appointment has been assigned to him as an additional responsibility.
Prof. Chahal is an experienced academician, researcher, and administrator, associated with Guru Nanak Dev University for more than three decades. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the university’s administrative structure. Previously, he has held several important positions such as Dean, Head of Department, and In-Charge of the University’s infrastructure projects. His research focuses especially on heritage architecture, sustainable development, and urban planning.
The Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, expressed confidence while entrusting him with this responsibility, stating that “his leadership skills and experience will contribute positively to the university’s progress.”
This appointment by the Vice-Chancellor has been warmly welcomed not only by the faculty and staff of the university, but also by former faculty members and alumni residing abroad. It is worth mentioning that the university had been embroiled in controversies for a long time, due to legal disputes involving the recently retired Vice-Chancellor and Registrar with office-bearers of the university’s teaching association. With the new Vice-Chancellor assuming office and initiating appointments aimed at implementing developmental plans, a new ray of hope is emerging for this university located in the border region.
