Purdue names Ananth Grama Distinguished Professor of Computer Science
Grama’s recognition acknowledges his pioneering research and contributions to computer science education.

Purdue University's board of trustees named longtime faculty member Ananth Grama Distinguished Professor of Computer Science for his outstanding contributions to research, education, and the field.
Grama has made significant advances in parallel and distributed computing, with applications spanning data science and machine learning. His work includes the development of software systems and methodologies for managing resources and executing complex scientific applications on platforms ranging from embedded controllers to large-scale cloud-powered data centers.
“Professor Ananth Grama's numerous contributions to parallel and distributed computing encompass architectures, algorithms, and software, with broad applications in data science and machine learning,” said Petros Drineas, professor and head of the Department of Computer Science.
Grama has authored foundational textbooks and served on editorial boards of leading journals, including Parallel Computing and IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Computing. His accolades include a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, Purdue’s Faculty Scholar Award, and the Amazon Research Award. He is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
In addition to his research, Grama has been recognized for his teaching, earning Purdue’s College of Science Outstanding Teacher Award. He has also chaired study sections for the National Institutes of Health and advisory boards for the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy.
Grama holds a BE from the University of Roorkee, an MS from Wayne State University, and a PhD from the University of Minnesota.
