U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, Ranking Member of the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, issued a sharp rebuke of the immigration-related executive orders signed by President Donald Trump on his first day back in office.
The orders, which include measures to reinstate the controversial “Remain in Mexico” program, eliminate Biden administration parole programs, and end birthright citizenship—a constitutional right enshrined in the 14th Amendment, were dubbed as steps toward a “mass deportation agenda,” by the Congresswoman.
“Today, we are seeing the Trump administration begin to unveil its mass deportation agenda. This agenda starts with these executive orders and will continue as they push through Project 2025,” Jayapal stated.
She accused the administration of stoking xenophobia and racial profiling, adding, “In doing so, the Trump administration is inviting the racial profiling of entire communities and subjecting an untold number of American families to being torn apart.”
Today, President Trump took a number of actions related to immigration — each a step toward his mass deportation agenda, and some even unconstitutional. I will never stop fighting to protect immigrant families.

Jayapal dubbed Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship as “unconstitutional,” warning that such an action could not legally be enacted by executive authority.
The Congresswoman pointed out the progress made during the Biden administration to address issues at the border, including initiatives like the CBP One app and efforts to rebuild the refugee program. These actions, she said, had reduced unauthorized migration and improved border management.
“Thanks to those actions from the Biden administration, President Trump is inheriting lower levels of unauthorized migration at our Southern border than when he left the Oval Office four years ago,” Jayapal noted.
Jayapal also highlighted the economic and social ramifications of Trump’s immigration policies. She argued that the new orders would exacerbate disorder at the border, harm vulnerable populations globally, and hinder the country’s ability to address serious threats effectively.
The Congresswoman vowed to fight against these measures, calling for an immigration system that is “orderly, fair, and humane.”
