Reshma Kewalramani and Jay Chaudhry to receive 2025 CED Distinguished Leadership Award

The awards, an initiative of CED, the public policy center of The Conference Board, honor leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing equal opportunity, fostering a more just society, and addressing critical public policy issues.

The Committee for Economic Development (CED) will present the 2025 Distinguished Leadership Awards to exemplary business leaders on October 8, 2025, in New York City. Among this year’s honorees are Indian Americans Reshma Kewalramani, CEO and president of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Jay Chaudhry, CEO, chairman, and founder of Zscaler.

The awards, an initiative of CED, the public policy center of The Conference Board, honor leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing equal opportunity, fostering a more just society, and addressing critical public policy issues.

As CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Reshma Kewalramani has led the Fortune 500 biotech company in pioneering transformative treatments for complex diseases. Under her leadership, Vertex achieved landmark approvals for a CRISPR-based therapy addressing sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia. The company has also expanded its pipeline to include therapies targeting pain, type 1 diabetes, and kidney diseases, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as mRNA, cell, and gene therapies.

Since assuming the CEO role in 2020, Kewalramani has doubled Vertex’s workforce, expanded its global footprint, and fostered a culture of belonging and equity, earning consistent recognition as a top workplace by Fortune and The Boston Globe. Her leadership achievements have been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including the Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award and being named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women.

Jay Chaudhry, founder of Zscaler, has revolutionized the cybersecurity landscape by creating a global security cloud platform that secures distributed and mobile enterprises. Under his stewardship, Zscaler has become a public company and a global leader in cloud security, enabling organizations to transition securely to a digital-first world.

With a track record of founding five successful companies, Chaudhry has consistently introduced market-defining innovations. His previous ventures, including AirDefense and CipherTrust, set benchmarks in wireless security and email security, respectively. His strategic vision and technical expertise have earned him accolades such as Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year and recognition as one of Goldman Sachs’ “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs.”

David K. Young, president of CED, praised the recipients, stating, “This year's distinguished honorees have demonstrated a deep sense of responsibility for the impact they can have within their companies, communities, and the nation at-large.”
