The Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative (CQC) has appointed, physicist and recognized expert in quantum physics, Rick Mukherjee to its board of directors.
Mukherjee, the inaugural director of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) quantum center, joins a distinguished group of regional leaders on the board, including Electric Power Board (EPB) president and CEO David Wade, who serves as chair; former U.S. Sen. Bob Corker; Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly; and newly appointed board member Charlie Brock, CQC’s CEO.

“We are delighted to welcome Charlie and Rick to the board,” Wade said. “Mukherjee brings critical expertise in quantum research and education. Their leadership will help position Chattanooga as a key player in the emerging quantum economy.”
Since assuming his role as UTC’s quantum center director in December 2023, Mukherjee has led efforts to expand quantum research, workforce development and industry collaboration. UTC became the first U.S. university to connect to a commercially available quantum network—developed by EPB—in 2023.
Commenting on his appointment, Mukherjee said, “Quantum technology has the potential to transform industries and open new opportunities for Chattanooga. I’m excited to contribute to CQC’s mission and strengthen the connection between UTC’s quantum research and the broader ecosystem.”
Mukherjee holds graduate degrees from the University of Cambridge, Jacobs University Bremen and the Max Planck Institute for Physics of Complex Systems. His research background includes positions at Harvard University, Rice University, Imperial College London and the University of Hamburg.
CQC was founded to support quantum education, workforce development and regional innovation through partnerships across academia, government and private industry.
